Sometimes when you travel you feel a need for an adventure. After all the sightseeing is done, all the museums are visited and all the restaurants are checked out you want a bit of fresh air. That’s when the outdoor tours come in. Today I would like to share with you my experience of snowshoeing in Slovakia!
“A snowshoe is footwear for walking over the snow. Snowshoes work by distributing the weight of the person over a larger area so that the person’s foot does not sink completely into the snow, a quality called “flotation”. Snowshoeing is a form of hiking”
As I was in Poprad, Slovakia, I decided to get a snowshoeing tour with Adventoura – a company that specializes in adventure tours in Tatra Mountains.
And so we started our snowshoeing adventure!
Here’s how the snowshoes look like:
You just put them on and you are ready to chase the snowy peaks of Tatra Mountains in Slovakia!
Erik, the owner of Adventoura turned out to be an extremely pleasant guide, he told me a lot of interesting things about the Tatras, region and Slovakia in general. Our hike up the hill was very friendly and funny experience.
We chose the peak in Liptovská Teplička, a picturesque little village in Low Tatras. Here’s the mountain we had to climb:
From the first steps with the snowshoes on, I understood that this was my kind of activity.
3 reasons why I loved it:
1) lots of fresh air
2) real feeling of mountain adventure
3) snow, lots of snow!
But my favorite part of climbing any mountain is a view that you see from the top. And during this snowshoeing the views were truly stunning:
For me the main idea of snowshoeing was to relax while being in the nature as well as to admire the peaceful beauty of Slovak mountains:
As for the stamina you need to go snowshoeing, I wouldn’t say that it was very hard or demanding hike up the mountain. It was just alright, – not too hard, not too easy. Perfect way to challenge yourself without exhausting your organism.
So this is how snowshoeing in Slovakia feels like.

There are different options for snowshoeing as well as other amazing adventure tours. My favorite is the Husky Adventures – dog sledding in Tatra Mountains. I mean, what can be cooler than going to an adventure with awesome huskies? 🙂
